ADDED on 14.03.2020 at 20.30: According to the Cabinet Decree of 14.03.2020, all international passenger transportation, including passenger ferry traffic on the Riga - Stockholm route, shall be cancelled from 17 March 2020. Taking into account the state of emergency declared in the country with the aim to prevent spread of Covid-19, the following security measures are implemented at the Freeport of Riga:

    • Prior to entering the port all ship agents of all cargo ships calling at the Freeport of Riga shall provide the Port Harbor Master's Office with accurate information on the composition of the ship's crew and the health status of all crew members.
    • The crews of foreign-flagged vessels calling at the Freeport of Riga shall be prohibited from coming ashore, except the specific cases to be agreed upon when necessary for the normal operation of the ship.
    • All activities related to cargo handling and ship maintenance shall be performed to minimize physical contact between persons.
    • The flow of goods and freight by road at the Freeport of Riga shall be provided while minimizing physical contact between persons at the entry control points. Passes shall be issued and visitors registered electronically.
    • Harbour Master's Office of the Freeport of Riga has introduced internal procedures and made changes to its operating procedures to minimize physical contact among shift employees, as well as any contact with crews of incoming ships. Pilots and other port personnel who, due to their duties, cannot avoid meeting with crew members shall be provided with personal protection and disinfection agents.
    • From 14.03 until further instructions visitors are not allowed to enter the Harbor Master's Office of the Vessel Traffic Service.
    • Reception of visitors and visits to the office building of the Freeport of Riga Authority shall be limited as much as possible. We request all those who need to settle questions in person, to contact the Authority specialists in advance by phone or e-mail or write to info [at] rop.lv.
    • The number of face-to-face meetings shall be reduced, large meetings and planned business trips shall be cancelled, the everyday operation of the Authority shall be organized with a view to assess remote work option.
