The capital of Belarus, Minsk hosts the Belarusian Transport Week, the events of which the port of Riga is represented by its CEO Ansis Zeltiņš, employees of the Freeport of Riga Authority and the port company Riga Container Terminal Ltd. Within the framework of Transport Week, the 11th international exhibition “Transport & Logistics”, in which the port of Riga participates in the joint stand of the transport sector of Latvia together with Latvijas dzelzceļš SJSC, LDz Cargo Ltd., LDz Loģistika Ltd., the Freeport of Ventspils and Liepāja SEA. This year, supplementing the supply of the Latvian transport corridor and demonstrating the cooperation potential in aviation, Riga International Airport SJSC participated in the exhibition.
As admitted by Zeltiņš, CEO of the Freeport of Riga Authority, “Belarus has been and still is one of the main partners for the logistics sector of Latvia. Belarusians require access to the sea and we are able to offer it. The Freeport of Riga is a good and logical choice for Belarusian partners in these terms. Along with other representatives of the sector, we have to be able to ensure effective Belarusian cargo transit from Latvian ports and convince Belarusians about the advantageousness of the Latvian cargo corridor. The Belarusian Transport Week, with the representation of high-ranking officials and Belarusian entrepreneurs, is a good platform to establish new contacts and to demonstrate the potential of the Latvian transit corridor and its readiness for effective cargo transportation from Belarus. Therefore, the presence of the port of Riga at the Transport Week is highly crucial.”
The Latvian stand at the exhibition “Transport & Logistics” was visited by Anatoly Kalinin, Vice-Premier of Belarus, and Anatoly Sivak, Minister of Transport and Communications. Kalinin expressed gratification for the participation of Latvia in the exhibition for the eleventh year already, indicating that he considered Latvia to be a stable partner for Belarus in the field of transport and emphasised the role of Latvia in the development of Eurasian multi-modal transport corridors. Uldis Reimanis, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, participated in the exhibition opening ceremony as the only foreign representative.
