Today and tomorrow the Freeport of Riga Authority (FPRA) is participating in a number of events  organized in the framework of Central and Eastern Europe countries  and China  cooperation format (hereinafter – 16 + 1). Today the port has been visited by Chinese entrepreneurs, who arrived in Riga to participate in the 16 + 1 Business Forum. In the afternoon, Mr.Hu Jianhua, the Vice president of China Merchants Group (CMG) and the accompanying delegation visited the Freeport of Riga. Tomorrow, at the 16 + 1 Business Forum the Freeport will be represented at its own stand, where the FPRA representatives will inform all interested parties about the operation of the port, the investment environment and opportunities for cooperation.

Today Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs, who arrived in Riga to participate in the 16 + 1 Business Forum, have visited the Riga Freeport Authority and have  learned a lot about  the Freeport operation, development projects and the business environment at the port. Chinese businessmen had the opportunity to meet with representatives of port terminals to discuss topical business issues. A number of Chinese businessmen were interested in Latvian dairy products and their delivery to China. The guests asked questions about taxes and investment environment at the port, as well as about potential investment into existing Latvian companies. Chinese businessmen were interested in the vacant Freeport areas, available for further development.

China Merchants Group Vice President Mr. Hu Jianhua and accompanying delegation left for a boat ride along the Riga port water area and at the Harbour Master Service met with the Head  of the Freeport of Riga Development Service Mr.Viesturs Silenieks, the Harbour Master Mr.Arturs Brokovskis-Vaivods as well as with the representatives of  container terminals – “Baltic Container Terminal” Ltd, “Rīgas Universālais terminals” Ltd,  “Riga Container Terminal” LTD and  “Logistics Systems” Ltd representatives. CMG is a powerful state-owned enterprise conglomerate, whose three main fields of activities are transport and transport infrastructure, finance and real estate. As for the Transport infrastructure sphere - CMG is China's largest rail forwarder, as well as internationally important investor and terminal operator. One of CMG current projects is a Chinese industrial park and logistics center “The Great Stone” in Belarus. The fact that the company's vice president has arrived at the port of Riga, and this is already the third influential Chinese business representative’s visit to the port, might be a serious signal that CMG is considering the possibility to transport cargo from the “The Great Stone” in Belarus via the Port of Riga.
