Last week, Deputy CEO of the Freeport of Riga - Marketing Director Mr.Edgars Suna represented the Freeport of Riga at IX International Forum “Transport and Transit Potential” in St. Petersburg, Russia. The annual forum is organized by the Russian authorities, that are in charge of transport policy, and aims to develop effective solutions to increase competitiveness of the Russian transport system. The Freeport of Riga Authority representatives are participating in the forum for the second year in order to be aware of current Russian transport policy issues and assess their impact on the Port of Riga.

Edgars Suna: “By participating in this forum, we can keep up with Russia's transport and transit policy current issues and, most importantly, in a timely manner assess their  impact on the port of Riga in the long term perspective. This year in the framework of the conference it was repeatedly stressed that Russia's transport sector currently is   mostly dominated by the growing economic cooperation with China. China has become Russia's main partner in both economic and transport sectors, and representatives of this country take part in strategically important Russian transport infrastructure development projects. Developing transit policy aimed at cooperation with China, Latvia and Riga port should be aware of the fact, that the new Silk Road is deemed to be an important project to promote development of transport services market in Russia as well.”
