On July 14, 2014, after the meeting with the senior officials of Latvia Mr. Masayuki Oku, vice president of Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) and Head of the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and his accompanying delegation of eight members paid visit to the Freeport of Riga Authority. The delegation was also accompanied by the Japanese Ambassador to Latvia Mr.Toshiyuki Taga.

The Chairman of the Freeport Board Mr.Andris Ameriks welcomed the important guests and presented the current situation in the port, investment and cooperation opportunities as well as the infrastructure and logistics development plans. Considering the fact that the “Rīgas Universālais terminals” is an indirect investment of the Japanese company Mitsui Corporation in Latvia, a particular terminal inspection was included into the agenda.

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group is one of the largest financial groups in Japan. Keidanren comprises the major Japanese companies such as Toyota, Canon, Panasonic etc.
