The situation in the Gulf of Riga has improved notably, and today, on March 4, the icebreaker “Varma” escorts the last 2 ships up to Kolka (Irbe Strait).
Between 1 March 2011 and 3 March 2011, 47 ships have been serviced at the Freeport of Riga, among them 28 have entered, 18 have left, 1 has been shifted. Since the beginning of the year, the number of ships serviced at the Freeport of Riga already exceeds 1320 ships.
Despite the complicated weather conditions in Latvia in February and the fact that some of the ships were not suitable for shipping in such winter conditions, the situation in the Gulf of Riga has become normal. It attests that the non-stop and smooth work at the Freeport of Riga, as well as operation of the icebreaker “Varma” and the tugboats have given the expected results.
