During the first four months of this year 9.64 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 2.3% less than during the respective period of 2009.

Statistics of the first four months shows that the amount of cargoes handled at the port has decreased less dramatically than during January of 2010, when the amount decreased by 15.6% in comparison to 2009.

During the first four months of this year general cargo segment has experienced an increase of 53.8% if compared to respective period of 2009, reaching 1.83 MLN tons.

Liquid cargo segment has faced 4.5% decrease with 2.15 MLN tons of cargoes handled.

The amount of bulk cargoes handled has decreased by 11.9% shrinking to 5.65 MLN tons.

Regarding the bulk cargoes at the Freeport of Riga, coal was handled the most – 3.9 MLN tons, however, this is still by 22.9% less than during the first four months of 2009. Additionally, 449 800 tons of chemical cargoes were handled which is by 30% less than during the respective period of last year.

375 000 tons of wood chips were handled, which is by 113% more than last year, and 50 300 tons of construction materials which is by 10.3% less than during the first four months of 2009.

The number of containers handled has increased by 23.4% reaching 72 590 TEU.

During the first four months of 2010 the Freeport of Riga has also serviced 161 421 passengers. The total number of passengers at the Freeport of Riga has increased by 37.8% if compared to 2009.
