During 2008 29.57 MLN tons were handled at the Freeport of Riga that is by 14% more than during 2007.


The largest increase of turnover was in bulk cargo segment, where the amounts handled grew by 24%, reaching 19.33 MLN tons.

Of bulk cargoes coal was handled the most – 13.78 MLN tons or by 31.6% more than in 2007. This year also 1.94 MLN tons of chemical cargoes, 776 300 tons of woodchips and 679 100 tons of building materials were handled at the Freeport.

The sharpest increase in bulk cargo segment was for peat. Overall during 2008 this cargo were handled by 86.5% more, reaching 234 200 tons. The amount of sawn timber handled for its part has decreased the most – by 58.1% - until 89 200 tons.

The turnover of general cargoes has lessened by 14.5%, reaching 4.8 MLN tons.

In general cargo segment timber was handled the most, reaching 2 MLN tons, which is by 30.9% less than during 2007.

The amounts of liquid cargoes for their part have increased by 12.5%, reaching 5.43 MLN tons.

Last year 5.36 MLN tons of oil products were handled that is by 12.1% more than during 2007.

In 2008 the Freeport of Riga serviced 503 174 passengers, of which 100 253 were cruise passengers.

The total number of passengers at the Freeport of Riga comparing to 2007 has increased by 13.9%, but the number of cruise passengers has lessened by 23.4%.
