Reception of ship-generated waste and polluted water from ships in the Freeport of Riga is implemented in compliance with the international MARPOL 73/78 convention and HELCOM recommendations.

Collection of waste and polluted water from ships is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The said services shall be provided by merchants, which have concluded a relevant contract with the Freeport of Riga Authority and have been issued permits and licenses specified in laws and regulations.

In the Freeport of Riga, ships can dispose of all types of waste as specified in Annexes I, IV, V, and VI of the MARPOL 73/78 Convention. The process of collecting and handing over ship-generated waste to licensed waste management companies is coordinated by ship agents.

The Freeport of Riga Authority is responsible for the safe collection and management of ship-generated waste and it is organized in compliance with the regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia and the Ship-Generated Waste Management Plan of the Freeport of Riga. 


Procedure for Reporting Non-Compliance of Waste Reception Facilities:

Upon identifying non-compliance of the waste reception facilities in the Port of Riga, the ship's captain is required to fill out a report form regarding the non-compliance of the port's waste reception facilities and submit it to the State Environmental Service or the competent authority of the ship's flag state.
