The Freeport of Riga Authority manages a large industrial facility - the Port of Riga. The port operation provides an invaluable contribution to the state and city economy, at the same time it also has an impact on the environment and the quality of the residents’ life. Therefore, the social responsibility policy and measures, implemented by the Freeport of Riga Authority, are aimed at reducing environmental and social risks resulting from intensive port activities.
The Freeport of Riga Authority invests large amounts into the environment protection measures in the port and purposefully implements both very large and small environmental and social responsibility projects.
The main objectives of social responsibility activities are environment protection, educating the public about the port and raising awareness of its contribution to the national economy, promoting maritime education and port-related professions while communicating with young people, as well as preserving the historical heritage of the port of Riga.
Implementing a socially responsible policy, the Freeport of Riga Authority annually organizes and supports significant social, educational, cultural and sports events, as well as participates in the most ambitious national cultural and environmental events. It provides an opportunity to address diverse strata of Latvian society, speaking different languages and representing different opinions.
