The Freeport of Riga is a multifunctional port with a modern, safe and sustainable infrastructure that is constantly evolving in response to market changes and adapting to new customer requirements.

The Freeport of Riga is practically ice-free, but in particularly severe winters safe and regular navigation both in the port and via the Gulf of Riga is provided by two icebreakers of the port.

The teritory of the Freeport of Riga on both banks of the Daugava is well provided with railway and motor access roads. About 60% of cargo to /from Riga port terminals is delivered by rail, but 40% - by road. The Freeport of Riga Authority provides for continuous maintenance and modernization of the port land transport infrastructure, as well as construction of the new railway and road infrastructure in the port territory.

The Freeport infrastructure meets the requirements of modern industry and can accommodate large cargo carriers and cruise ships. In terms of vessel size, the Freeport of Riga can acommodate all vessels whose size makes it possible to sail through the Danish Sea straits and enter the Baltic Sea. These are Panamax and post-Panamax type vessels with a draught of up to 15 m and a length of up to 300 - 320 m.

The technological infrastructure of the Freeport of Riga is in constant development: integration with transport and logistics companies is being developed, the latest IT solutions for vessel, cargo and passenger flow accounting and management have been introduced, 5G mobile communication network has been tested and developed, and document flow between various port units has been automated. Smart solutions improve data exchange within the Freeport and make it the most efficient and technologically advanced port in Latvia.
