In the territory of the Freeport of Riga there are berths owned by the private persons (port merchants) as well as berths owned or possessed by the Freeport of Riga Authority. The berths, being owned or possessed by the Freeport of Riga Authority, may be leased to merchants for the port business activities.

The annual rent is calculated for each berth separately, taking into account its technical condition, as well as the necessary expenses of the Freeport of Riga Authority for the berth maintenance and management. 

The decision on the berth lease and the rent amount is made by the Freeport of Riga Board on the basis of the Law on Ports and in compliance with the developed Methodology of the real estate lease and granting the right of superficies.

In addition, berths owned or possessed by the Freeport of Riga Authority, may be leased for a short term not exceeding 1 year, in accordance with the Regulations for a short-term lease of berths. The rent shall be calculated per 24 hours, which is also the minimum rental period.

Berth lessees shall ensure the operation of berths in compliance with the Freeport of Riga berth technical operation regulations in order to guarantee safety of a vessel’s mooring, staying and cargo handling, as well as preservation of berth structures throughout their use.
