The Freeport of Riga Authority provides measurements of particulate matter (dust) and volatile organic compounds (benzene, NO2, SO2) in the port territory. During the last decade, four dust and three volatile organic compounds monitoring stations have been mounted in the port area. Two of them operate in the new coal transshipment area on Krievu Island in the immediate vicinity of the cargo handling sites, and two - in the immediate vicinity of residential areas - in Bolderāja at 1G Stūrmaņu Street and in Vecmīlgrāvis at 5A Meldru Street.
