During the first two months of this year 4.63 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 7.7% less than during the respective period of 2009.

Statistics of January and February shows that the amount of cargoes handled at the port has decreased less dramatically than during January of 2010, when the amount decreased by 15.6% in comparison to 2009.

During the first two months of this year general cargo segment has experienced an increase of 47.5% if compared to respective period of 2009, reaching 809 300 tons.

Liquid cargo segment has faced 3% decrease with 1.164 MLN tons of cargoes handled.

The amount of bulk cargoes handled has decreased by 18.7% shrinking to 2.65 MLN tons.

Regarding the bulk cargoes at the Freeport of Riga, coal was handled the most – 1.866 MLN tons which is by 27.4% less than during the first two months of 2009. Additionally, 212 700 tons of chemical cargoes were handled which is by 42.8% less than during the respective period of last year.

173 000 tons of wood chips were handled, which is by 69.3% more than last year, and 12 600 tons of construction materials which is by 44.2% less than during the first two months of 2009.

The number of containers handled has increased by 8.8% reaching 32 093 TEU.

During January and February the Freeport of Riga has also serviced 58 436 passengers. The total number of passengers at the Freeport of Riga has increased by 19.5% if compared to 2009.
