For the free port and the city of Riga 2012 has been particularly successful in terms of cruise tourism. Cruise ship numbers grew by nearly one-third compared to last year and the port served 81.2 thousand cruise passengers. However, its story of success continues beyond the end of season.

 

International Committee of Tourist Film Festivals CIFFT reported this week that tourism film Riga – the Style Lives On created by Cruise Ship and Passenger Unit of the Freeport of Riga was ranked among the world’s top 10 tourism films of 2012. All 10 movies were nominated for Grand Prix CIFFT 2012, and the winner will be announced at the Gala Event held on November 20 in Vienna, Austria.

Riga – the Style Lives On has achieved great success in several tourism film competitions. At the beginning of the year it won the title of the Best Latvian Tourism Product at Tourfilm Riga 2012. However, the international success of the film is recognized by the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals CIFFT.

The film Riga – the Style Lives On is available on the Cruise Ship and Passenger Unit website www.whyriga.com. The film shows visitors various ways of getting to know Riga. It might also be interesting to the local residents as the film reveals details that people might miss in their daily routine.

Creators of the film were the Freeport of Riga, VF Studio, residents of Riga and the leading part was played by Riga itself.
