During the last six month significantly increased the incoming and outgoing amounts of coal in the Freeport of Riga. Due to the increasing amounts the Board of the Freeport has decided to permit channel dredging in the Pilmuiza aquatory, thus allowing loading coal into vessels with larger deadweight. During last few months the handled amount of coal was sharply raising also in other Baltic Sea ports. It is due to the fact that Europe has started to gradually abdicate from nuclear energy. Currently the largest coal importers are Great Britain, Germany and Holland.
