MSC MARITINA V konteinerkuģis

On the night of Sunday, the container ship MSC MARITINA V entered the port of Riga. The 266-metre-long and 37-metre-wide vessel which sails under the flag of Madeira (Portugal) and has a maximum capacity of 4533 TEU (20-foot containers) is the largest container ship ever visited Riga. The vessel's operator - the Swiss-based international company MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) has included the Port of Riga in the route of its regular container line.

MSC MARITINA V arrived at the port of Riga and was accommodated at the berths of SIA " Rīgas Centrālais Termināls ". Today it has been shifted to the berth of the SIA "Baltic Container Terminal", where loading works will continue. Tomorrow the container carrier will leave the Port of Riga and will sail to the port of Le Havre in France.

The Port of Riga is the only port in Latvia providing regular container traffic. Currently, six regular container lines - CMA CGM, Maersk, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), Sea Consortium Pte. Ltd Trading, Unifeeder and Samskip Multimodal B.V. operate via the Port of Riga.

Last year the container segment of the port of Riga reached a new record – for the first time in history, more than 5 million tons of containerized cargo (465.4 thousand TEU) were transshipped. Compared to the previous year, the volume of containerized cargo has increased by 9.8%. And one more record - for the first time in the history of the Port of Riga, container cargo were the largest cargo group and accounted for 27% of the port's total cargo portfolio.

MSC is the world's largest sea container shipping company, controlling about 19.7% of the world's container ship fleet. It operates 800 container carriers and transports around 22.5 million TEU containers per year. MSC shipping lines boast 300 routes and call at more than 520 ports. MSC fleet includes the world's largest container ships MSC Turkiye and MSC Michel Cappellini, with a capacity of more than 24 thousand TEU. The company has 675 representative offices in 155 countries, including SIA MSC Latvia in Riga.
