The Board of the Freeport of Riga authorised one of the largest terminal operators "Lacon" Ltd. who operates coal cargoes to build a new berth at Daugavgriva. The company needs the new berth in order to increase loading capacities.
After the dredging was completed, the depth of the used berth approach channel and the port aquatorium exceeds 13 m, which allows receiving and handling of "Panamax" type vessels.
According to further development plans the company intends not only to build the second berth but also to introduce loading equipment with the speed up to 1000 tons per hour.
