The Port of Riga together with the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia, SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš”, Ventspils Freeport and Liepāja SEZ represented Latvia under the joint brand “Via Latvia” at the international exhibition “TransLogistica Kazakhstan 2021”, held from October 13 to 15 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The purpose of the visit to Kazakhstan was to promote the Port of Riga as a profitable, modern and efficient component of the Eurasian transit corridor and to facilitate the flow of transit cargo, especially container cargo, through new logistics chains via the Port of Riga to Scandinavia and Western Europe.
Kazakhstan is an important partner for the Port of Riga, taking into account both the size of its internal market and export potential, as well as its transport policy, which in recent years has been aimed at the development of Kazakhstan as a transit country between Europe and China. By developing new logistics chains, Kazakhstan can become an important partner in attracting container cargo from China. There is also an interest of Kazakh investors in the possibilities to establish their own terminals in the Port of Riga.
The exhibition in Almaty, which is an important business, trade and logistics center of the region, provides opportunities to address partners from other Central Asian countries - Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, as well as those from China.
