On May 31, the first port crane was delivered to a new port area on Krievu Island. The crane was relocated from its current territory on Andrejsala area to Krievu island berth by the company “STREK”. The company is one of the Riga port stevedores, that have to relocate its coal handling operations to the new port area on Krievu Island by December 2018.
The STREK Company representatives indicate that the crane is not intended for cargo handling, but is necessary to ensure handling and installation of the pre-ordered coal handling equipment on Krievu Island territory. The crane has a load capacity of 27 tons, and is currently under assembly on the berth.
As previously announced, the Freeport of Riga Authority has completed and commissioned the work, implemented in the framework of the project “Infrastructure Development on Krievu Island for port activities transfer from the city center” by December 30, 2015. To ensure that the project objectives are met, the port companies have to relocate coal transshipment operations from existing territories to Krievu Island by December 2018. As can be seen, all the activities are currently being carried out in compliance with the FPRA developed and approved Action plan and all project deadlines have been met.
