For the Freeport of Riga Authority the Big Cleanup will start tomorrow, on April 20, with planting trees on Kundzinsala, in the territory adjacent to the port. The employees of the Freeport of Riga Authority will continue the activities of the Big Cleanup by taking care of the territories, adjacent to the port. Together with Kundzinsala residents they will create a 270 meters long green hedge of thujas at the 12th line of Kundzinsala, that will visually demarcate Kundzinsala residential area from the port area. The work will start tomorrow at 10.00.

On Friday, April 21, the Freeport employees together with the Riga Teika school students will work at Mislestibas island, where they will clean up the nature reserve area and, together with ornithologists, will make birdhouses for the birds nesting at the island – such as golden-eyes, goosanders, shelducks and forest owls.

At the same time, during the Big Cleanup it is planned to relieve form litter and waste the territories, adjacent to the Freeport of Riga - Mangalsala, Kundzinsala Vecmilgravis and Voleri. It is planned that more than 100 Freeport employees will participate in the Big Cleanup this year.

The Freeport of Riga demonstrates very responsible attitude towards environmental issues, introducing increasingly greener and more environmentally friendly technologies into the port operation. The Freeport of Riga Authority installed air quality meters in the capital and air pollution monitoring is carried out every day. The Krievu Sala project, implemented by the Freeport of Riga Authority, shall be mentioned as an important improvement for Riga resident’s life quality, which provides that starting from 2019 coal cargo will no longer be handled in the city center, thus freeing the city center from coal dust pollution,” says the Freeport CEO Deputy Martins Ziemanis.

This is the eighth year since the Freeport of Riga Authority participates in the organization of the Big Cleanup, not just working but also actively encouraging everyone to join the team and clean up Latvia together.
