During the first nine months of the current year 21.95 MLN tons of cargoes have been handled at the Freeport of Riga, which is by 13.8% more than during respective period of the last year.


The biggest increase of turnover was in bulk cargo segment, where the amounts handed have increased by 28.9%, reaching 14.35 MLN tons.

Off bulk cargoes at the Freeport of Riga the coal was handled the most – 10 MLN tons or by 34.9% more than last year. This year also 1.46MLN tons of chemical cargoes, 612 700 tons of woodchips and 579 900 tons of building materials were handled.

The sharpest increase in bulk segment this year was for grain and grain products. Overall this type of cargo was handled by 140% more than last year, reaching 269 500 tons. The sharpest decrease was for the sawn timber – by 60.1% - until 70 000 tons.

The turnover of general cargoes lessened by 13.1%, reaching 3.77 MLN tons. In general cargo segment the timber was handled the most, up to 1.68 MLN tons, although it is by 28.1% less than last year. By 1.4% - until 153 851 unit – lessened the number of containers handled.

The amounts of liquid cargoes have increased by 0.2% reaching 3.83 MLN tons. During nine months 3.78 MLN tons of oil products were handled, which is by 0.1% less than last year.

During nine months the Freeport of Riga serviced also 401 159 passengers, of which 93 423 were cruise passengers.

The total number of passengers at the Freeport of Riga comparing to 2007 has increased by 9.3%, but the number of cruise passengers has lessened by 27%.
