During three months period this year 7.455 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga that is by 6.5% more than during first three months of the last year.


The sharpest increase was in liquid cargo segment, where the amounts of cargoes handled during the first three months have increased by 45.8%, reaching 1.717 MLN tons. This year 1.706 MLN tons of oil products were handled, which is by 46.1% more than last year.

The amounts of bulk cargoes handled have increased by 5.2% reaching 4.873 MLN tons.

Of bulk cargoes coal was handled the most at the Freeport of Riga – 3.803 MLN tons or by 15.6% more than during first three months of 2008. Also 532 600 tons of chemical cargoes were handled that is by 12.8% more than during respective period of the last year.

144 800 tons of wood chips were handled, which is by 39.8% less than last year, and 37 400 tons of building materials that is by 71.9% less than during first three months of the last year.

The turnover of general cargoes has decreased by 27.1% reaching 865 300 tons.

The number of containers handled has lessened by 9.9% - until 43 458 TEU.

During 2009 the Freeport of Riga has serviced 77 743 passengers. The total number of passengers at the Freeport of Riga comparing to 2008 has increased by 24.5%.
