During seven months of the current year 17 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga, which is by 13.5% more than during first seven months of 2007.


The biggest turnover raise was for bulk cargoes, where the amounts of cargoes have increased by 27.2% reaching 11.09 MLN tons, but liquid bulks have risen by 2.3%, reaching 3 MLN tons.

The turnover of general cargoes has decreased by 12.3%, reaching 2.91 MLN tons. This year, of bulk cargoes, coal has been handled the most at the Freeport of Riga – 7.74 MLN tons or by 32.6% more than last year. This year also 1.15 MLN tons of chemicals were handled, which is by 1% more and 483 300 tons of woodchips.

The biggest raise in bulk cargo segment was for grain and grain products. In total this year the turnover of this cargo has increased 3 times, reaching 215 600 tons. The sharpest decrease was for sawn timber – by 59.6 %, dropping until 58 200 tons.

In general cargo segment timber cargoes have been handled the most, reaching 1.32 MLN tons, which is by 27.1% less than last year. By 0.5% - dropping until 117 955 TEU – lessened the number of containerised cargoes handled.

During the first seven months 2.97 MLN tons of oil products were handled, which is by 1.7% more than last year.

The Freeport of Riga during first seven months has serviced 257 712 passengers, of which 52 181 were of cruise.

The total number of passengers at the Freeport of Riga comparing to 2007 has increased by 6.8%, but the number of cruise passengers decreased by 29.1%.
