Increase of safety in all the ports of the world without distorting cargo flows is the main issue of the 23rd Conference of IAPH, which is taking place in Durban, South Africa. The vulnerability of the international transport system has come to the sharp attention after terror acts of September 11, 2001 in USA, said Mr. William Narten, New York and New Jersey port authority representative addressing conference delegates. "As it is not possible to check every container coming in the port the increase of safety in industry all over the world should switch to elimination of threats." The representatives of the Freeport of Riga are also participating in IAPH 23rd World Ports Conference. Already since 1999 the Freeport of Riga Authority is a regular member of IAPH and also is actively working in IAPH Combined Transport, Distribution and Logistics Committee.
