Today, on 1 March, at the meeting of the Freeport of Riga Board, Sandis Šteins was elected Chairman of the Freeport of Riga Board, and Liene Priedīte-Kancēviča was elected Vice-Chairman of the Board.
“I believe that the cornerstones of the successful future development of the Freeport of Riga are its international competitiveness and security. The sustainability of the results can be provided by becoming more efficient, promoting rapid technological growth and boosting the reputation of the Port of Riga. As Chairman of the Freeport of Riga Board, my task will be to strengthen the Port's core commercial activities and develop a business model that is in line with the changing market, which will enhance the Port's operational capacity, the value of Freeport of Riga and its revenue flow,” said Sandis Šteins, the new Chairman of the Freeport of Riga Board.
Sandis Šteins holds a Master's degree in economics and has experience in managing large enterprises and state capital companies. He is currently a member of the Board of SIA “Kool Latvia” as well as has held positions in the management of SIA “Rimi Latvija”, SIA “Kurši”, “Statoil” and IJSC “Balta”. S.Šteins has been a member of the Board of the Freeport of Riga since 2024 - he was appointed as a representative of the Minister of Economics.
Liene Priedīte-Kancēviča holds a law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia and has been working in public administration for more than 28 years. Since 2006 she has been the Director of the Legal Department of the Ministry of Transport. Liene Priedīte-Kancēviča has extensive experience in the management of state capital companies - she has been the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SJC “Latvijas Pasts”, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SJC “Latvijas Valsts radio un televīzijas centrs” and a member of the Board of Pāvilosta Port Authority, as well as a responsible employee of SJSC “Latvijas Dzelzceļš”, JSC “Pasažieru vilciens” and SJSC “Biķernieku kompleksā sporto bāze”. L.Priedīte has been a member of the Freeport of Riga Board since 2023, representing the Minister of Transport.
The Freeport of Riga Board is the highest decision-making body of the port and consists of four Board members - representatives nominated by the Minister of Economy, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development. Currently, the members of the Freeport of Riga Board are Sandis Šteins (EM), Elita Turka (EPRDM), Baiba Bāne (FM) and Liene Priedīte-Kancēviča (MoJ).
