North Container Summit 2025

On 19 and 20 May, the North Container Summit 2025, a major conference for the container logistics industry, will take place in Riga for the first time. More than 200 container logistics professionals rep-resenting international container carriers, container line operators, port terminals, rail carriers, ship-ping companies and a wide range of service providers related to the container logistics industry will take part in the conference. The main partners of the conference are the Freeport of Riga Authority and the SIA “Baltic Container Terminal”.

The aim of the conference is to promote regional cooperation in container logistics, boost new col-laborations and foster innovation in the sector, with a particular focus on Northern Europe and the Baltic States. The two-day programme provides expert presentations and discussions on trends, challenges and innovations in container logistics and transport. Various networking sessions will be available for successful business networking and strengthening professional ties.

According to the SIA “Conway Container Solutions”, the conference organiser - the city of Riga, lo-cated in the heart of the Baltic region, with its dynamic port and centuries-old maritime trade tradi-tions, is the ideal venue to bring together representatives of the container logistics industry from Europe, Asia and far away regions. At the same time, it is important to attract the attention of inter-national container carriers and service providers to the Baltic States - particularly Latvia and the Port of Riga – and to showcase the opportunities and development prospects in our region.

Container shipping and container logistics is a priority segment of the Port of Riga's operations, and therefore the Port of Riga together with the SIA “Baltic Container Terminal” - the Port's largest con-tainer terminal - are pleased to welcome container logistics professionals from all over the world, providing more information on the Port's work, strategic role and development perspectives. While visiting the SIA “Baltic Container Terminal”, the conference participants will take part in a site tour, meet the terminal's management, learn more about digital cargo handling processes and the latest logistics technologies.

Containerised cargo is the second largest cargo group in the Port of Riga's cargo portfolio, accounting for 29% of the port's total cargo turnover. Last year, the container segment set a new record han-dling an all-time high of 501.9 thousand TEUs. Compared to the previous year, the throughput of the container cargo increased by 7.8%. According to data for the current year, growth in the contain-er segment continues - in the first four months the port handled 170.6 thousand TEUs - an increase of 5.2% compared to the same period last year.

The Port of Riga is the only port in Latvia with regular container traffic. Containerised cargo is handled at three dedicated container terminals of the port, and currently eight regular container shipping line operators have included the Port of Riga in their routes. Last year the port achieved a significant milestone by being included in the first 'green' container shipping corridors. The next-generation LNG-fuelled container vessel TIVOLI began regular service to Riga as part of the CMA CGM route. Moreover, the X-PRESS FEEDERS launched its operations via the Port of Riga with a methanol-fuelled ECO UMANDE, operating on the Green Baltic X-PRESS route.

Vessels powered by alternative fuels calling at the Port of Riga are a step towards climate-neutral transport services, giving the port a competitive edge. Over time, an increasing number of clients - carriers, cargo owners, exporters and importers - will have a growing economic incentive to seek out green supply corridors and Riga will be ready to provide sustainable logistics solutions.
