Today, August 7, the Port of Riga terminal SIA “NAFTIMPEKS” welcomed the vessel KIZOMBA sailing from the Port of Texas City, USA, with 39,245 tons of diesel fuel. This is already the fifth shipment of diesel fuel from the United States, being delivered in the framework of a successful cooperation, ensuring stable and reliable fuel supplies to Latvia.

The latest diesel fuel delivery is proof of the continuous cooperation that began with the visit of the Minister of Economics and Latvian entrepreneurs, including the management of SIA “NAFTIMPEKS”, to Houston (USA) in September last year. This also demonstrates that companies in the Port of Riga have diversified their business and are able to provide high added value cargo from Western partners, strengthening the country's energy security and competitiveness.

“The USA is Latvia's ally and economic partner. Last September, the largest delegation of Latvian businesspeople ever to visit the US opened the door to closer cooperation between the two countries, and the arrival of this fuel tanker is proof of the outcomes of that cooperation. The US plays an important role in strengthening Latvia's energy independence, and the Ministry of Economics will continue to promote the strengthening of economic ties and cooperation,” said Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis.

The vessel KIZOMBA, carrying diesel fuel produced by the US Marathon Petroleum Company LP, left the Port of Texas City, USA on 13 July. Upon its arrival at the port of Riga, standard procedures - cargo handling and quality control - were carried out. The diesel fuel is currently being pumped into storage tanks at the port of Riga, from where it will be distributed to fuel stations throughout Latvia

“The oil product market is capable of re-orientation, as evidenced by the arrival of KIZOMBA at the Port of Riga with another shipment of diesel fuel from the United States. Due to the activities of port operators working with oil product suppliers in the US, a solution has been found to ensure economically feasible and stable fuel supplies to the local market using the terminals of the Port of Riga, as well as to strengthen our country's energy independence,” emphasized Ansis Zeltiņš, CEO of the Freeport of Riga.

Marking the successful cooperation in the field of oil product supplies, the arrival of the vessel KIZOMBA was welcomed today by representatives of the Ministry of Economics and the US Embassy, as well as the management of the Freeport of Riga and SIA “NAFTIMPEKS”.

SIA “NAFTIMPEKS” is the largest and most modern liquid cargo terminal in the Port of Riga, specializing in the transshipment and logistics of oil products, providing clients in the Baltics and beyond with solutions that meet international standards.
