Today, on July 26, at the Freeport of Riga Board meeting Gints Sīviņš has been elected Chairman of the Freeport of Riga Board, while Edgars Štelmachers will henceforth be the Deputy Chairman of the Board.

“As the Board Chairman, it will be my responsibility to continue the work aimed at increasing the port’s efficiency and competitiveness, which will be challenging enough in this time full of uncertainties.  In my opinion, it is important to speed up the digitalisation and automation of the port processes, as well as to continue the port infrastructure development projects. One of the priorities will be the industrialization of the port, attracting both foreign and domestic investments to the port areas. At the same time, I would like to develop the port into an environmentally and neighborhood-friendly logistics centre of excellence, fostering new cooperation with universities, researchers, non-governmental organizations and modern technology companies," said Gints Sīviņš, the new Chairman of the Freeport of Riga Board.

Gints Sīviņš has a master's degree in law. He worked in the field of commercial law as well as managed companies in various sectors, providing services and advice on legal and financial issues. Currently, he is working in the Ogre municipality for the second term, performing the duties of the deputy Chairman of the Ogre Municipality Council. Gints Sīviņš has been a member of the Freeport of Riga Board since 2021, having been nominated a representative of the Minister of Economics.

Edgars Štelmachers holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and management, he has extensive experience in   managing large companies. Currently, Edgars Štelmachers is a deputy of the Riga City Council, a member of the Board of SIA “New Rosme” and a member of the Board of SIA “Funky Fish”, as well as the President of the Latvian Association of Team Sports Federations. Edgars Štelmachers has been a member of the of the Freeport of Riga Board since 2023 and is representing the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development.

The Freeport of Riga Board is the highest decision-making body of the port and consists of four members of the Board – representatives nominated by the Minister of Economics, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development. Currently, the members of the Freeport of Riga Board are Gints Sīviņš (MoE), Edgars Štelmahers (MEPRD), Baiba Bāne (MoF) and Liene Priedīte-Kancēviča (MoT).
