On May 29, 2013 Meldru street square improvement project was officially presented in Vecmilgravis.
The project was implemented by the Freeport of Riga Authority and Vecmilgravis Development Association. Milgravis square reconstruction work is a continuation of co-operation between the Freeport of Riga Authority and Vecmilgravis Development Association with the aim to strengthen contacts and mutual understanding of the Freeport and residents of surrounding areas, creating a fertile environment for sustainable development.
A beautiful, green square with cobblestone paths was created on 7800 square meters of spacious waterfront area along the street Meldru , including the alleys along the channel edge, a playground for children, reminding of a vessel to symbolize the presence of the Freeport of Riga , and a recreation area with a street ball field, a special dog walking area, and other improvements. About 100 000 Lats were invested into square development activities. In 2011 the Freeport of Riga Authority financed creation of a memorial stone on this territory, dedicated to Mangali Seamen School. Festive ceremony of Milgravis square opening will take place on May 29 at 15:00 at 6, Meldru Street.
