In connection with the work plan established by the Freeport of Riga Authority for elimination of consequences of unforeseen accidents in high dangerousness aquatorium, “EKO osta” Ltd performed tactical special training covering seven berths.

Legend of training: leakage of petroleum products has occurred in one of the berths during bunkering of a tanker, creating pollution in a 700 m2 wide territory. Attraction of the fleet of the Freeport of Riga Authority, as well as experts is required for elimination of accident consequences of such pollution. During the training, motor ship “Flora 1” was used, which was the first to arrive at the place of accident, experts of “EKO osta” Ltd assessed the situation defining it as the emergency situation of second group. In such cases tugboats and experts of “EKO osta” Ltd arrive at the place of accident, taking enclosing booms and collector vessel of petroleum products “Rumba” with them. Ivars Briedis, Production Director at “EKO osta” Ltd, thinks that the training passed successfully – all responsible services are well prepared for work in emergency situations. The Freeport of Riga Authority has two tugboats in its disposition – “Stella” and ”Santa”, that can be operatively appointed for elimination of accident consequences and enclosing of the polluted territory. This time “Stella” participated in training with three people on the board. In total, 300 meters of booms were placed. The comparatively large territory was enclosed with booms in 38 minutes, which is a very good result. Later, collection of pollution was commenced with the collector vessel “Rumba”. Vladimirs Tarans, representative of the Freeport of Riga Authority, notes: “The team worked operatively and proved that the training performed earlier, as well as qualitative selection of employees has justified itself in practice.”

Trainings for elimination of accident consequences are performed systematically at the Freeport of Riga Authority, and this summer they have been performed also in “Statoil” and “Neste terminals”. In nearest future tactical trainings have been planned also in several other objects under risk.
