During the first eleven months of this year 27.24 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 1.3% more than during the respective period of 2008.
The largest increase has been in liquid cargo segment, where the amounts of cargoes handled during the first eleven months have increased by 23.8%, reaching 5.997 MLN tons. 5.962 MLN tons of oil products were handled at the port this year, which is by 24.6% more than last year. Meanwhile the amount of liquid gas handled at the port this year have decreased by 51.3% reaching 26 400 tons.
The amount of bulk cargoes handled has increased by 1.5% reaching 17.275 MLN tons.
Regarding the bulk cargoes at the Freeport of Riga, coal was handled the most – 12.901 MLN tons which is by 4% more than during the first eleven months of 2008. Additionally, 1.811 MLN tons of chemical cargoes were handled which is by 3.8% more than during the respective period of the last year.
578 700 tons of wood chips were handled, which is by 19.4% less than last year, and 271 700 tons of construction materials which is by 58.3% less than during the first eleven months of last year.
The turnover of general cargoes has decreased by 11.7% reaching 3.971 MLN tons.
The number of containers handled has decreased by 13.5 % to 165 480 TEU.
During 2009 the Freeport of Riga has also serviced 648 277 passengers. The total number of passengers at the Freeport of Riga has increased by 39.3% if compared to 2008.
