During the ten months period 24.28 MLN tons have been handled at the Freeport of Riga, which is by 13.2% more than during respective period of the last year.
The sharpest increase was for the bulk cargo segment, where the amount of cargoes handled have risen by 26.4%, reaching 15.8 MLN tons.
Of bulk cargoes the coal was handled the most – 11 MLN tons or by 32.1% more than last year. This year also 1.6 MLN tons of chemical cargoes, 657 100 tons of woodchips, 631 400 tons of building materials were handled.
The biggest increase of bulk cargoes was for the grain and grain products. All together the increase was by 124% more, reaching 295 900 tons. In its turn the largest decrease in turnover was for the sawn timber – down by 58.8% - until 76 600 tons.
The turnover of general cargoes has decreased by 13.3%, reaching 4.15 MLN tons. At the general cargo segment the timber cargoes were handled the most, reaching 1.8 MLN tons, although it is by 29.4% less than last year. By 1.6% - until 173 484 units – decreased the number of containers handled.
For their turn the amounts of liquid cargoes have increased by 4.1%, reaching 4.33 MLN tons. During ten months period 4.28 MLN tons of oil products were handled at the Freeport, which is by 3.8% more than last year.
The Freeport of Riga during ten months period has serviced 436 835 passengers, of which 93 423 were cruise passengers.
The total number of passengers at the Freeport of Riga, comparing to 2007, has risen by 10.7%, but the number of cruise passengers has decreased by 27%.
