The amount of cargoes handled at the Freeport of Riga during August of 2009 is 19.4% larger if compared to August of the last year. 


During the first eight months of this year 20.094 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 3.5% more than during the respective period of 2008. 

The largest increase has been in liquid cargo segment, where the amounts of cargoes handled during the first seven months have increased by 31.4%, reaching 4.41 MLN tons. The amounts of liquid cargo handled during August have increased by 56.8% if compared to the respective month of the previous year. 

During the first eight months, the amount of bulk cargoes handled has increased by 2.8% reaching 13.039 MLN tons, while the turnover of general cargo has decreased by 21.6% reaching 2.645 MLN tons. 

If compared to the August of 2008, the amount of bulk cargo handled has increased by 18.2%, meanwhile the amount of general cargo as decreased by 4.7%. 

During the first eight months of 2009 the Freeport of Riga has also serviced 500 519 passengers, including 107 241 cruise passengers. The total number of passengers at the Freeport of Riga has increased by 42% if compared to 2008.
