The cargo turnover at the Freeport of Riga has risen by 3,2%

During the first five months of the current year the Freeport of Riga handled ten million tons of cargoes, which is by 3,2% more than during the respective period of the last year, when 9,7 MLN tons were handled.

Slesers predicts sharp increase in cargo turnover for the Latvian ports

According to the said by the Minister of Transport Mr.Ainars Slesers during the conference "The Role of the Freeport of Riga in Creation of the New European Logistics Platform" today, Russia is ready to flatten port tariffs that could result in increase of cargo turnover of the Latvian ports by 20%.

Riga to be included in the PAN European transport network map

According the said at today’s conference by the State secretary of the Ministry of Transport Mr.Vigo Legzdins, Riga is to be included in the future PAN European map as an important transport node in East – West transport corridor.

Celebrating 805 anniversary of the Riga Port today documental story "Riga port 1990 - 2005" by Anita Freiberga has been publicized.

Today Mrs Freiberga said that she "cannot be a judge" therefore the story mainly is about achievements, about people that have worked for the port during these years.

The cargo turnover of the Freeport of Riga rises by 2.8%

During the first quarter of the current year the Freeport handled 5,7 MLN tons of cargoes, which is by 2.8% more than within respective period of the last year, when 5,5 MLN tons were handled.

Argalis expects the construction of a new passenger terminal at the Freeport of Riga will begin next year

During the press conference Mr.Argalis anticipated that Riga city development plan together with the Freeport of Riga development plan will be approved at the end of the year – in November or December. The passenger terminal could be built during 4-6 months time.

During the first two months of the current year 3,74 million tons of cargoes were handled, which is by 7,7% more than during January and February of the last year.

The ships and yachts of the regatta "Cutty Sark" raise up the sails to leave for Germany

The sail ships of the regatta "Cutty Sark Tall Ships Races 2003", which for several days were seen at the Riga Passenger Terminal, today will raise up the sails and following one another will sail through the mouth of Daugava to the bay of Riga and further to Germany.

Five years have passed since the Freeport of Riga Authority together with its partners, owners of companies located in the territory of the port and state officials celebrated its 800th anniversary of the Port. At the same time the whole country got ready for the celebration of 800th birthday of Riga city.

The cargo turnover at the Freeport of Riga has increased by 22,6%

During the seven months period the cargo turnover at the Freeport of Riga has reached 12 608 200 tons that is by 22,6% more than during the same period of the last year. The largest raise was reached for the bulk cargoes, the handled amount of which was 5 358 300 tons, which is by 37,5% more than during seven months of 2002. The amount of general cargoes handled during seven months of the current year reached 4 075 300 tons – by 22,2% more than last year, but the volume of the liquid cargoes handled within the respective period reached 3 174 600 tons, which is by 4,2% more than during seven months of 2002. 171 245 passengers were served during the seven months period that compared to the last year’s respective period is a raise of more that two times. The largest part of all passengers came in the port on cruise ships.

The participants of the "Cutty Sark" regatta are welcomed by playing anthem and raising the flag

Today begins welcoming of the "Cutty Sark Tall Ships Races 2003" regatta’ participants. Each ship and yacht is welcomed at the entrance of Andrejosta bay by playing national anthem and raising the flag of the respective country. The Freeport of Riga Authority is organizing the welcoming of the regatta’ participants. The welcome will last 20 hours. Therefore the brass band playing the anthems is complemented from almost all brand bands of Latvia so the musicians are able to take some rest. The orchestra is led by the bandmaster Janis Purvins.
