The cargo turnover of the last year has increased by 3.8%

The cargo turnover of the Freeport of Riga during 2006 has reached 25 357 600 tons, which is by 3.8% more than during 2005, when 24 429 100 tons of cargoes were handled.

During the first eleven months of the current year 23,516.3 MLN tons of cargoes were handled, which is by 5,5% more than during respective period of the last year, when the Freeport handled 22,285.3 MLN tons.

Mr. Janis Straume is appointed board member of the Freeport of Riga

The Cabinet of Ministers has nominated Mr. Janis Straume to represent the Ministry of Economics at the Board of the Freeport of Riga instead of Mrs. Margarita Brikmane.

This year the Freeport of Riga handles cargoes by 15 MLN tons more

During the first seven months of the current year the Freeport of Riga has handled 15,197 MLN tons of cargoes, which is by 6,2% more than during respective period of the last year, when the port handled 14,305 MLN tons.

The Freeport of Riga Authority obtains the Certificate of Appreciation issued by U.S. delegation representatives

The U.S. delegation representatives of U.S. Department of Defence issued the Certificate of Appreciation for the Freeport of Riga Authority as well as written expression of gratitude regarding the cooperation and support for organizing the training course, which was held 18th-22nd of September. The representatives of almost all Latvian security structures participated at this course.

"Baltic Kristina" will be leased to Norwegian enterprise

Today the Board of the Freeport of Riga Authority in its exceptional meeting accepted the lease with the rights of redemption of the ferry "Baltic Kristina" to Norwegian enterprise "Express Line Incorporation".

New berth is revealed at the Freeport of Riga enforcing the large-scale development project

Ltd. "Magnat Group" has founded a new berth at the Freeport of Riga territory. The berth construction is a part of the development project "Rose of winds", which is planned to come into life until year 2011 and to attract investments of EUR 50 MLN.

During the first six months of the current year 12,851 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga, which is by 6,4% more than within the respective period of the last year, when 12,081 MLN tons were handled.

The Riga Passenger Terminal wants to invest several millions lats into the berth construction

Riga Passenger Terminal Plc. plans to construct one 430m long quayside out of two existing ones investing in the construction works several millions lats. It is planned to move the quayside 50 meters into the Daugava River in order to improve the embarkation of the ships.

The Freeport of Riga border changes come into force

As of today the changes of the Freeport of Riga boundaries offered by the Riga City Council come into force. The changes anticipate to exclude several territories out of the port territory and to move the port borders away from the city centre.

The Freeport of Riga will stop to lease the land to "Naftas serviss" Ltd.

Today the Board of the Freeport of Riga decided ahead of time to cancel the land lease agreement with "Naftas serviss" Ltd. as the previously planned investments were not made.
