Canadian delegation visits Freeport of Riga

On January 19, 2010 a delegation from the Senate of Canada , headed by the Speaker Mr. Noel Kinsella and accompanied by H.E. Mr. Scott Heatherington, the Ambassador of Canada in the Republic of Latvia, visited the Freeport of Riga.

The Freeport of Riga Hosts the Largest Cargo Ship in Its History

The Freeport of Riga continues its successful development even during the times of economic slowdown. Last week the port hosted the ship NYON which carried 70 483 tons of coal, and it is the largest ship which has ever entered the port. Once the coal was transshipped at RCT, the vessel left for Amsterdam.

The amount of cargoes handled at the Freeport of Riga last year has increased by 0.5%

During the last year 29.72 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 0.5%% more than during 2008.

The amount of cargoes handled at the Freeport of Riga this year has increased by 1.3%

During the first eleven months of this year 27.24 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 1.3% more than during the respective period of 2008.

The amount of cargoes handled at the Freeport of Riga this year has increased by 2.7%

During the first ten months of this year 24.95 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 2.7% more than during the respective period of 2008.

The amount of cargoes handled at the Freeport of Riga this year has increased by 1.9%

During the first nine months of this year 22.367 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 1.9% more than during the respective period of 2008.

The amount of cargoes handled at the Freeport of Riga this year has increased by 3%

During the first half of this year 14.8 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 3% more than during the first six months of 2008.

The Amount of cargoes handled at the Freeport of Riga during August has increased by 19.4%

The amount of cargoes handled at the Freeport of Riga during August of 2009 is 19.4% larger if compared to August of the last year.

The Board of the Freeport of Riga elects the Chairman of Board

Riga – 2 July, 2009. The extraordinary meeting of the Board of the Freeport of Riga was held, during which the new Chairman of Board and the new deputy of Chairman of Board were appointed.

Cruise ship Thomson Spirit in the Port of Riga - August 18, 2009

On the August 18, 2009 Freeport of Riga for the first time welcomed cruise ship Thomson Spirit owned and operated by British company "Thomson cruises". The ship was built in 1983. Thomson Spirit lengths is 215m and gross tonnage – 33 930. During the visit in Riga there were 1311 passengers onboard the ship.

Riga City Council Approves Port Relocation from the City Center to Krievu Island

Today Riga City Council Urban Development Committee members approved Riga port relocation from the city center to Krievu Island as well as related infrastructure development. Further project development shall be implemented in compliance with mandatory provisions set by the Environment State Bureau resolution.

Cruise ship Costa Luminosa in the Port of Riga - September 02, 2009

On the September 2, 2009 Freeport of Riga for the first time welcomed cruise ship Costa Luminosa owned and operated by Italian company "Costa Crociere". Costa Luminosa entered service in early May 2009. The ship’s lengths is 293m and gross tonnage – 93 000. During the visit in Riga there were 2388 passengers onboard the ship.

The amount of cargoes handled at the Freeport of Riga this year has increased by 2.2%

During the five months period of this year 12.237 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 2.2% more than during the first five months of 2008.

During the first seven months of this year 17.218 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga which is by 1.3% more than during the respective period of 2008.

During four months period this year 7.455 MLN tons of cargoes were handled at the Freeport of Riga that is by 3% more than during first four months of 2008.
