Cruise Shipping Miami 2011

From March 14-17 Freeport of Riga already for the fourth time participated in the largest cruise industry exhibition Cruise Shipping Miami 2011.

Miami (USA) is the largest cruise terminal in the world therefore Miami calls itself the home port of cruise industry and already for the 27th time invites representatives of ports, cruise operators, shipbrokers, shipwrights and other representatives of the industry to meet in the largest cruise industry exhibition in the world Seatrade Cruise Shipping Miami.

Passengers choose tourism destinations, their possibility to get to the destination is ensured by a cruise operator, comfort of the passenger is ensured by the ship crew and the port’s task is to ensure embarkation of both the passengers and the ship at the port. In this chain between the cruise passenger and the city there is a considerable amount of companies that are given the opportunity to meet annually – at the Cruise Shipping Miami exhibition to share their experience, obtain new business partners, gain recognition of the port among representatives of the industry and, of course, promote recognition of the city among cruise tourists.

The exhibition gathered more than 900 participants and about 10 000 visitors from almost 120 countries worldwide. The event comprised a conference to discuss such issues as future development of cruise shipping and today’s challenges, environment protection, cruise ship building and renovation, modern technologies and design solutions, as well as services that are offered to passengers on the ships and in passenger terminals at the ports.

This year Freeport of Riga Authority in the exhibition was represented by its Cruise ship and passenger department representatives Inita Luna and Laura Apoga, with the aim to popularise Riga as a tourism destination for passengers and the port as a reliable business partner for cruise companies. Just as last year this year Riga participated in the Cruise Europe port association stand together with the Baltic States, port of Sonderborg and tourism agency Arctur Travel giving the visitors the possibility to get acquainted with the Baltic Sea Region in general. Representatives of the Freeport of Riga admitted that unlike the first time when they participated in the exhibition today Riga is recognised and in the cruise destination map Riga has obtained a stable place. Representatives of the Freeport of Riga met with such prominent cruise operators as Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC and Summit Cruise Line. Experience was shared with ports of St. Petersburg, Klaipeda, Tallinn, Helsinki, Stockholm, Croatia, Copenhagen, France, New Orleans and Puerto Rico.
