Freeport of Riga was represented at the European Cruise Council 2011

On 14 June 2011 in Brussels the European Cruise Council 2011 Ports Summit was held. In the framework of annual conference, for the first year the Ports Summit was organized.

The aim of the summit is “to have a dialogue on a number of issues at a broad, high level, with the eventual goal of improving the efficiency of the port/ship interface”, state the organizers. For discussions the event brings together experts from all over Europe and some of even further eastern and western countries. Latvia was represented by Inita Luna, Head of Cruise and Passengers Division at Freeport of Riga Authority. Among the cruise operators at the conference were represented a number of impressive "brand names" such as: Royal Caribbean, Costa Cruises, MSC Cruises, Disney Cruises, Carnival UK, AIDA Cruises and Fred Olsen Cruise Lines.

During the Port summit substantial topics were discussed in three sessions. Respectively – berthing allocation systems, port dues and port operations and services. The major emphasis of each of the discussion topics was put on the improvement of passenger service quality.

European Cruise Council Ports Summit is significant event in the cruise industry. It gives an opportunity for both parties- the cruise operators and ports - to exchange the views and experiences in order to achieve common goal - the growth of cruise industry in the European region.
